About this place

Hampi is one of South India's most atmospheric heritage landscapes. The UNESCO-listed ruins preserve the remains of Vijayanagara, a major Hindu kingdom whose temples, bazaars, palaces, gateways, water systems, and riverside monuments spread across a surreal terrain of granite boulders. The site rewards slow exploration by bicycle, scooter, auto-rickshaw, or guide, especially early and late in the day when heat and light are easier to manage.
