India Visa Requirements

Most short-stay visitors need an e-Visa or other visa approval before traveling to India.

Core rule

India uses an official e-Visa system for many tourism, business, medical, and conference visits. Tourism e-Visa categories commonly include 30-day, one-year, and five-year options, but eligibility, validity, entries, and fees depend on nationality and current Government of India rules.

What to prepare

  • 1.Passport — valid for at least 6 months from date of entry
  • 2.e-Visa approval — keep a copy of the electronic travel authorization or application reference
  • 3.Return or onward details — airlines or border officials may ask for proof
  • 4.Accommodation details — first-night address and contact information are useful to have ready

Practical notes

Apply in advance: Most visitor categories need approval before departure. Do not rely on arranging a tourist visa after arrival unless your nationality and route explicitly allow it.

Fees and validity vary: The official e-Visa fee and allowed stay depend on nationality, visa category, and current rules.

Check your entry point: e-Visa entry is limited to designated airports and seaports, with exit normally allowed from authorized immigration checkpoints.

Use the official portal: Apply through indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa rather than third-party lookalike services.
